eclectic. jazz. trio.

A musical ensemble known for its diverse and innovative approach to jazz music, we embrace a wide range of musical influences and styles, and blend traditional jazz with elements from other genres, such as funk, rock, classical, latin, and world music, resulting in a unique and captivating sound.

Uppa Trio formed in late 2017 when three Jazz-loving friends finally ran out of excuses for why they can't play a gig together. The rest is history.

Uppa Trio is:

Vince Anderson

Keyboards

Vince Anderson is a local Edmonton musician who has played most of the pianos in town by this point. Despite the headwinds of ill chance and circumstance, he can play many instruments and genres, and that’s not lack of focus, dammit!  That’s flexibility.

Currently, Vince does churchy stuff at a couple Edmonton edifices, Baroquey stuff with Divertimenti Ensemble, Rock n Roll with local group Radio Tragedy, folk and Celtic with local trio The Acoustiholics, and jazz with the Uppa Trio. He also does light housekeeping and fortune telling.

Vince currently owns the organ bench at Rogers Place, where he plays home games for the Edmonton Oilers. Yup, he’s the guy who does Mup Mup Mup Mup CHARGE! Harder than it looks.

Connor Miskiman

Bass

Being born into a musical family, Connor was immersed in music from a very young age. He was always captivated by watching his father and grandfather play music together, so he decided on his own to learn to play guitar on his own, and shortly afterwards, discovered the bass.

Music unleashed a passion in him, so he focussed his studies on music through middle and high school, topping it off with a Bachelor of Jazz and Contemporary Music from Grant MacEwan University. During this time, he played a wide variety of genres with various groups, from Classical with the Edmonton Youth Symphony Orchestra, Roots/Blues with The HeartAcres, and Hard Rock with Savage Playground and Daniel Martin and the Infamous.

Connor’s background in a wide range of genres, and his cross-training on both upright and electric bass have given him a unique style and an ear for laying down the perfect bass line in any song. His passion for all types of music coupled with his impeccable performance skills and formal education make him a sought-after musician for live music performance, recordings and song compositions.music

Mark Miskiman

Percussion

Like his son Connor, Mark was always immersed in music. His father was an accomplished musician, and there was always music playing or being played. But it wasn’t just jigs and reels;  the daily album playlist was the very epitome of eclectic - Bach, Stan Getz, The Ventures, Jim Croce, Simon and Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, ABBA, and Tom T. Hall - were all played loud and enjoyed with equal gusto.

After learning mandolin, banjo, and guitar to accompany his father, Mark did the teenage thing and completely rebelled, switching to percussion/vocals and playing with many successful Top 40 and Heavy Metal bands. When work took him overseas, and with a new family started, Mark put down the sticks and took what he thought would be a short sabbatical - short being 20 years I guess.

With a love of all genres, and experience playing almost every one of them, Mark fuses different percussive styles and techniques to create something truly unique in every performance.
